A brief story on Cherry Blossoms Society

Now in existence for over 10 years, Cherry Blossoms Society continues to strive to provide programs and services to the community.

Cherry Blossoms Society was initiated on 2008. Though, Cherry Blossoms School  was already started at Kohima in 2007, prior to the society being fully functional, with a vision to have an inclusive institution. We had 25 children including three differently able children. The number has risen to 137 this year with 42 differently able coming to school.

Cherry BlossomsSociety has been open to people who wants to get the first hand information on types of disability and nature of disability. Since 2007, our society has been tirelessly and unceasingly working for the people with disabilities(PWD) in various stages of life. We have covered 11 districts creating awareness on disabilities but there is no proper institution till date. As an inclusive institution we are trying to create more awareness, break the barriers and norms we hold against disability and empower the disabled through education.

We are currently partnered with RAISE (Regional Action for Inclusive Education in North East). Through this we are aspiring to be a Role Model for Inclusive Institutions, particularly in Nagaland and in India as a whole.
We are also actively working on our CBR (Community Based Rehabilitation) project. Through this community based programs, we want to provide support and assistance to disabled people in rural areas and villages. Currently this program is active in Kohima village and chedema villages. It helps creating not only awareness for the disabled families but the society as a whole. Home visits, daily checks on specified household/locality for each worker is carried out religiously. It not only helps create more awareness but overall it establishes social integration, equalization of opportunities, physical therapy rehabilitation programs for the disabled.
